Despite a vigorous campaign by the Institute for Responsible Technology to educate and warn the public about the dangers of GMOs, most consumers still don't read the labels of the foods they eat and serve to their children.
Those who do read labels may not know to look for labels that read "non-GMO" or "organic," perhaps because the dangers aren't fully understood. Below are two illustrations from responsibletechnology.org. They have been extracted from a free, downloadable Powerpoint presentation that anyone can use to present.
Immune health is greatly impacted by the digestive system. If the digestive system suffers, the ability to fight off disease is also impaired. Genetically modified food not only causes changes to the stomach, but to the intestines as well:
There is concrete evidence that when test rats are fed GM tomatoes, their stomachs bleed, the cells in their livers and pancreases change, and the walls of the stomach are permanently altered. The first photo set shows the deformed wall of the stomach found in test subjects. The second set of photos shows the mutations in the villi of the small intestine. Villi are small hair-like projections on intestinal walls that transport nutrients from digested food into the bloodstream. When villi are damaged, their ability to extract nutrition from food is compromised.
We must understand that the damage is real and cumulative, and that although none of us has fully escaped contamination, we need not add to our bodies' burdens by ingesting more of these harmful scientific inventions.
