Revelation 14:6-12 is a crucial passage of Scripture to decode. The Bible often uses symbolism to drive its point home and this is certainly true with the Three Angels’ Messages of Revelation 14. Let’s take a look at the First Angel's Message and decode it, using the Bible itself as our decoder.
Angels that fly through the midst of heaven (Revelation 14:6)
This is a symbolic vision. The angels are symbolic of messengers who are called to receive the truth and with power proclaim the everlasting Gospel to the world. “Angel” means a messenger of God. It is true that literal angels also assist people in their work of proclaiming the Gospel, but this is not the predominate idea here.
The message must be given to the whole world because the churches have been corrupted. According to Revelation the entire world wondered after the Beast, so everyone has been deceived. But John seesin his vision that some will heed the warning and will not receive the mark of the Beast. He calls those who keep God’s commandments “saints” (See Revelation 14:12).
Fear God, and give glory to Him (Revelation 14:7)
We know that the word “fear” can also mean awe or reverence, and that is the “fear” this verse is talking about. To give glory to God is to reveal His character through our own character and to make Him known to others. Whatever we do for God brings glory and honor to Him. 2 Corinthians 4:6-7 says this:
For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
Revelation 14 is a high calling for those who wish to do God's will. Let's see what the Second Angel's Message has in store for us
