Insight

"Throughout history ideas about the age of the earth and the universe have varied widely. Ancient Greeks and Hindus often thought in terms of numerous cycles of time. The Hebrews and early Christians believed that only a few thousand years had elapsed since creation. The concept of a recent creation also prevailed in medieval times and was strengthened by the Protestant Reformation. To Martin Luther the Bible gave the supreme account of beginnings, and the flood described in Genesis was the most powerful factor in geologic history."
