In 1991, Chung Kyung gave a keynote address at the WCC Assembly in Canberra, Australia. With candles burning on either side, she invoked spirits of the dead by reading them off a list. Among the departed spirits called were Hagar, Uriah, the children killed by Herod, Joan of Arc, Jewish people killed in World War II, Malcom X, and even "the spirit of the Liberator, our brother Jesus, tortured and killed on the cross."

Annie Besant in 1922. In 1890 Annie Besant met Helena Blavatsky and over the next few years her interest in Theosophy grew. She traveled to India and in 1898 helped establish the Central Hindu College in India. In 1902 Besant established the International Order of Co-Freemasonry in England and over the next few years established lodges in many parts of the British Empire. Helena Blavatsky helped found the Theosophical Society in September 1875. Her writings on esoteric spiritual knowledge are considered to be the first instance of what is now called New Age thinking. Throughout her career she claimed to have demonstrated physical and mental psychic feats which included levitation, clairvoyance, out-of-body projection, and telepathy. Marianne Williamson is a spiritual activist, author, lecturer, and founder of The Peace Alliance, a campaign supporting legislation currently before Congress to establish a United States Department of Peace. Williamson incorporates aspects of many religions into her spiritual philosophy, including tenets of Zen Buddhism such as the belief that one must empty their mind through enlightenment to truly find God. Just one example of her spiritual philosophy can be seen in her statement: "You've committed no sins, just mistakes." Maitreya's agent or channel, Benjamin Creme, a British artist and long-time student of esoteric philosophy. He has become the principal source of information about the emergence of the Maitreya, the World Teacher. In 1982, he took out full page advertisements in major papers worldwide declaring that "The Christ is Here Now."
