Romy Suszko was looking for truth in all the wrong places.
Romy is a soft spoken young woman from Chile. She speaks fluent Spanish and has a passion for writing and sketching. She's currently working as a cleaner at Lion's Gate Hospital, but she's dabbled in all sorts of jobs from waitressing, to hairdressing, to fashion wholesale, to TV script writing. Her search for truth has led her to experiment with ideologies, philosophies and belief systems as varied and eclectic as her career. Her 'soul-searching' led her into mysticism and the occult, and for a time she was very involved in the Kabalarian philosophy and numerology. Romy became disturbed when she realized that she was beginning to analyze everything in terms of the Kabalarian numerology system. She no longer paid attention to people's names. She was trapped and caught up in analyzing the numbers within the name and what those numbers said about the character and future of the person.
Disillusioned, Romy left the Kabalarian ideas behind and tossed about rather aimlessly in her search for truth. It was about this time that a non-Adventist friend who had attended a Leo Schreven evangelistic seminar lent Romy a video tape of Dr. Walter Veith's lectures on creation and evolution. Romy was fascinated by the clear, logical conclusions backed by scientific data that shattered the idea of evolution. Almost a year later, another friend of Romy's knowing of her interest in creation, showed her a pamphlet he had received, inviting him to a series of meetings on creation and evolution held in Burnaby. Romy was surprised and delighted to discover that the lecturer was non other than the man who had first sparked her interest in creation and God: Dr. Walter Veith.
Quite independently, Romy had already attended a Seventh-day Adventist church off and on for a year. Following the Walter Veith lecture series, however, Romy was excited about having finally found what she was looking for. She stopped working on Sabbath even though that meant a cut in pay. She bought all of the Dr. Veith videos and enthusiastically lent them out to friends as she began to share her new found faith. She also began Bible studies with Pastor Bob Peifer and was baptized by him on March 15, 1996.
Praise God! Romy has found treasure unparalleled in the simple truths of the Bible and the accompanying peace of mind. Now if only the rest of her life would unfold as plainly. She plans to do in-house hairdressing and facials this fall while she pursues courses in journalism and children's literature.
